Abt AS4: The Audi A4 in sporty trim

For the fortieth birthday of the model range Abt have developed a new tuning program for the Audi A4. Here’s how the Abt team have turned the A4 into a sports sedan. (Jessica Fischer , 25.01.2012)

New from the Abt crew

To mark the forty years since the start of the Audi 80/Audi A4 model range the tuners at Abt Sportline have come up with an enhancement program for the A4 model which just benefitted recently from a mid-cycle facelift. The view of Hans-Jürgen Abt is that the A4 not only represents premium qualities in the mid-class category but that the car is also a reliable partner for the everyday motorist. However he feels, too, that the driving enjoyment can be even greater and this is where the Abt crew starts. Endurance testing confirms that the output of the six-cylinder motor of the S4 has risen from 333 to 435 horsepower. Now the car hits a hundred in 4.8 seconds and whereas previously the maximum velocity was electronically limited to 250 kilometres an hour now a top speed of 282 is possible. Abt also have something up their sleeve for the little four-cylinder TFSI. Where before the driver was given 211 horsepower he now has at his disposal 275 according to test rig data. Finally the Abt engineers provide more push from the three-litre turbo diesel with a rise from 245 to 282 horsepower and an increase in torque from 500 to an impressive 560 Nm.

Performance prioritized

Newly developed elements of body kit are intended to underline the character of the A4 and give it improved dynamics. The tuner proposes light metal rims from the ‘CR Silverlight’ range or the ‘DR’ variants in either 19 or 20 inch format. These come as a complete set with high-speed tyres fitted.
