Abt go back to the roots
One is inclined to breathe a sigh of relief, as whisper “at last!”. For we must admit that we experienced a certain reluctance in recent weeks when it came to reporting the efforts of the tuner to transform Audi A1 and Q3 models or Volkswagen’s Beetle and Tiguan although it must be said that we have also seen a lot worse. But the latest news from Abt Sportsline gives cause for optimism… for it seems that the tuner has returned to their true mission. This can be summed up as taking the moderately emotional but technologically refined cars made in and tuning them into to powerful but still understated autos with sporting character. This describes precisely what Abt have done with the Audi A6 Avant, turning the estate into an ‘Abt AS6 Avant’.

- The top diesel, the three litre TDI now puts out 300 horsepower and 580 Nm of torque (unmodified… 245 horsepower and 500 Nm). The less potent diesel also has a boosted output of 240 horsepower compared with 204.
So far, so good
Audi’s ne mid-class estate is, while not yet available for buyers, but the crew at Abt Sportsline have been quick to come up with an all-encompassing enhancement program for the brand-new model. Here the tuner has taken full advantage of Audi’s shared components policy and the prior experience with the sedan version which has been on the market since April. This explains the adoption of the front spoiler, side panels and rear skirt unit from the four-door cr. The sole real innovation in the aerodynamics package is the roof spoiler. The choice of alloys… the ‘BR’, ‘CR’ and ‘DR’ designs in sizes 19 to 21 inch and in various colour-ways are also those fitted on the notchback AS6.

- The new Audi A6 Avant won’t reach dealerships until September. But this has in no wayprevented Abt Sportsline from developing a comprehensive tuning program for the new model.
Anticipating the S6
It would be something of a surprise if the motor tuning had departed from the trodden path. What Abt have done is really perfectly clear… they have anticipated the future S6 version. The top petrol powered three litre TFSI now puts out 420 horsepower, a big increase from 300, and 540 Nm or torque where that series auto produced 400. This makes the AS6 Avant capable of hitting a hundred in five seconds, compared with 5.6 seconds. Typical for Abt is the price of all this goodness… only a market-leading firm can ask 3,800 Euros for the optimization of the motor management software.. Thos who prefer diesel power will not only pay less at the filling station but also less for the Abt tuning solution. The top diesel, the three litre TDI now puts out 300 horsepower and 580 Nm of torque (unmodified… 245 horsepower and 500 Nm) and for this Abt Sportsline asks ‘just’ 2,790 Euros. Even the less powerful version gets a boost from Abt… the ‘little’ three litre TDI has an output of 240 horsepower, 36 more than the series engine. An exhaust system with quad tail pipes can be taken for granted for all tuned versions.
