The concept vehicle was dubbed ‘AC Schnitzer Eagle’ and impressed mightily when it flew round the course in a record time of 1:13.341, making its rivals look as if their wings had been truly clipped. Only big, bad powerhouses like the M3 with compressor or the KTM X-Bow were able to do better, but only due to the far greater push of their motors.

BMW are always ready to speak of their environmentally friendly ‘Efficient Dynamics’ but at AC Schnitzer it is a matter of ‘Efficient Performance’ when it comes to tuning a car to get from it all that is capable of delivering. The John Cooper Works Mini is, in stock condition, no weakling but AC Schnitzer have been able to get a further 49 horsepower out of the 1.6 litre turbo power plant. The Eagle soars with all of 260 horsepower. As if this were not enough to reach new heights of performance the Schnitzer crew replaced the exhaust system and reduced the overall weight of the auto by 80 kilos to 1,125… and thus the Eagle swoops to a hundred kilometres an hour in only 5.8 seconds. That is 0.7 seconds better than the series JCW. To keep the driving dynamics in harmony with the increased power there is a height-adjustable racing suspension installed and Schnitzer’s own 18 inch aluminium rims fitted.
