Comprehensive tech upgrade
B&B Automobiltechnik is at the moment one of the busiest firm providing Volkswagen and Audi tuning. Since June the tuner based in Siegen, North Rhine-Westphalia, has been presenting a new automotive creation almost each month. Now they have gone to work on the top sports model made in Ingolstadt… the Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro… and have given it a full technology upgrade.
-
- The time for the classic sprint to a hundred kilometres an hour now takes 3.6 instead of 4 seconds in the B&B Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro and two hundred is reached 1.5 seconds sooner… 10.8 instead of 12.3 seconds. The top speed also increases from 316 to 330 kilometres per hour.
Four sound settings
Not that many complaints have been heard concerning the performance of the V10 mid-motor sports car… it is, after all, the same mill as is to be found in the Lamborghini Gallardo. In the latter auto the engine puts out 570 horsepower, in the Audi 525. But this B&B found inadequate and boosted the output to 610 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque rather than the 530 Nm of the original version. The B&B approach was to re-work the air intake ducting, install a carbon air filter and modify the fuel injector mapping of the V10 motor. A significant measure of the increased power… about 25 horsepower… can be attributed to the new exhaust system. And this offers four different sound settings which can be selected by remote control. The cost for the overall power upgrade is 14,950 Euros.

Power boost
This investment means that the driver will enjoy much enhanced performance. The time for the classic sprint to a hundred kilometres an hour now takes 3.6 instead of 4 seconds and two hundred is reached 1.5 seconds sooner… in 10.8 instead of 12.3 seconds. The top speed also increases from 316 to 330 kilometres per hour. It is understandable that B&B also makes available a really serious set of ceramic brakes for 12,950 Euros which will go well behind the B&B 19 or 20 inch wheels. Those who opt for the larger rims will fit the Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro with alloys sized 9x20 at the front with 235/30 tyres. At the back the all-wheel-drive sports car runs on 11x20 rims with 305/25 rubber.

Road or track?
It cannot be contested that the B&B Audi R8 V10 has sufficient push for the race track with even the brakes being up to the task of competitive motoring. However there is also the option of improving the running gear with a racing coil-over suspension for 4,950 Euros. For around 1,000 Euros there is a coil-over suspension suited for everyday road driving which allows for body lowering from 20 to 40 millimetres. There is a third possibility… that is to retain the original Audi suspension but... at a cost of 998 Euros... to add sports springing which will bring the car at the front 20 millimetres lower to the ground and at the back by 25 millimetres.
