B&B VW Beetle: Seven-course menu

The tuners at B&B Automobiltechnik are specialists for Audi and Volkswagen enhancement. And it was inevitable that they would get their hands on the ‘21st Century Beetle’ introduced last year. (Florian Maier , 18.01.2012)

Upping the power

For the Beetle powered by the 1.4 TSI motor B&B offer power increases to three different levels. Stage one boosts the output by optimization of the electronics and adjustment of the turbo pressure, going from 160 to 210 horsepower and from 240 to 285 Nm of torque and this costs just 998 Euros. Put a further 500 Euros on the counter at B&B and you can enjoy stage two which gives now 225 horsepower and 310 Nm. However for those who desire even more the stage three modifications should suffice. Here a special turbo-charger unit comes into play in combination with a modified air intake system and a sports exhaust system to result in an output of 240 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque.

The look is improved with sporty aluminium rims in sizes from17 to 20 inches. On offer soon will be a “cool aerodynamics package”.

Beetle fleet of foot

For the top Beetle with the 2.0 TSI under the retro-styled bonnet B&B have put together a four stage enhancement program. Here, too, the first stage costs 998 Euros and ups the output to 240 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque. This is an increase of 40 horsepower and 60 Nm in comparison with the stock version. Then there are the next levels which further increase the potency to 250, 265 and 295 horsepower. But it is at stage four that things get really exciting… there is a special turbo unit and intercooler and stainless steel exhaust system push the Beetle now with 320 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. This makes the boosted Bug run in 5.6 seconds to a hundred kilometres an hour and top out at 250.

To keep the driving dynamics in harmony with the power increase there are four and six-piston high performance brakes from 3,795 Euros.
