BMW X6: First upgrade

BMW have concentrated on details in order to secure the continued success of its X6 model. What is new we reveal here. (Jessica Fischer , 26.01.2012)

Facelift time

Sales of now more than 150 thousand units of their so-called Sports Activity Vehicle, the X6, was even for the BMW management here in Munich something of a surprise, well above the predictions made in 2008 when the model was launched. And now a mid-cycle upgrade is meant to ensure that there will be further pleasant surprises in the future. At the salon in Geneva the Bavarian automobile manufacturer will show the facelifted version which will reach the dealerships from the middle of June. Pricing has not yet been announced.

There are new tones for the interior, too… the leather can now be had in ‘Vermillion Red’, black and ‘Ivory White’.

What’s new

Although in general the visual differences are modest the new front fascia design does catch the eye. The look is meant to stress the car’s sporting ambitions with a new positioning of the fog-lights, a slight modification of the ‘double-kidney’ radiator grille and the optional headlamps using LED technology. For the X6 M adaptive headlights are installed as standard. There are LED lights at the back as well, in the form of two strips. These detail changes come at the same time as three new body colours are introduced… ‘Marrakech Brown’. ‘Orion Silver’ and ‘Midnight Blue’. There are new tones for the interior, too… the leather can now be had in ‘Vermillion Red’, black and ‘Ivory White’. Buyers who seek the maximum of sporting character for their SAV will find the 'M Sport’ edition to their liking. This delivers 20 inch light metal wheels, ‘M’ branded door-sills, black housings for the fog-lights, an ‘M’ leather sports steering wheel with shifter paddles and the typical ‘M’ interior finish with plenty of Alcantara and leather. The motorizations on offer remain largely unchanged. In spring there will be the addition of the xDrive30d with ‘AdBlue System’ and urea injection in order to ensure that the Euro 6 emission norms are respected. The new M50d with its 381 diesel horsepower will be one of the top versions within the X6 M range.
