Aston Martin V12 Zagato
Bubbly debut: Aston Martin V12 Zagato
On the very first day of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como Aston Martin finally revealed their new V12 Zagato. (Sabine Stahl, Thomas Harloff

Typically Zagato: The double bubble
It’s what’s beneath the skin that counts most? With
many automobiles that is certainly true. But at the Concorso d'Eleganza which
just ended this was not the case. Here it was about good looks, seductive
curves, sculptured steel, aluminium and carbon fibre materials. It was the
ideal setting for Aston Martin to unveil formally the new V12 Zagato. The
photos bear witness to the achievement realized by the British car maker in its
partnership with the Italian design studio: a vehicle which “strikes a balance
between racing performance and the typical Aston Martin style”. The V12 Zagato
is based on the V12 Vantage model but is intended to call to mind the famous DB4GT
Zagato of1961. And it was inevitable that the form of the car’s roof should
feature a restrained hint of the typical Zagato ‘double bubble’. The bonnet
hood is marked by two prominent air intakes.

- Light weight is the secret, for the Aston Martin V12 Zagato is destined to compete on the track. The car will make its first race circuit appearance on the 28th of May on the Nürburgring and will later be at the start of the 24 hours event.
Racing debut on the Nordschleife
The power for the new Aston comes from the familiar motor of the V12 Vantage, the six-litre V12 with 380 kilowatts or 380 horsepower and producing 570 metres of torque. The car will make its first race circuit appearance on the 28th of May on the Nürburgring at the 53rdADAC ACAS H&RCup VLN event. And on the same track the Zagato will be at the start of the 24 hour race on the 25th and 26th of June. There the car will be entrusted to two highly experienced driver teams and one of the men at the wheel will be the head of Aston Martin in person, Dr. Ulrich Bez.
