Citroen Tubik: Back to the future
The Citroen Tubik is a modern shuttle bus with room for nine occupants with an in-your-face look but lots of comfort. (Sabine Stahl

Comeback of a legendary transporter
This would appear at first glance to be the futuristic interpretation of the hugely successful Citroen Type H van first built in 1947. The French automobile manufacturer is bringing the nine-seater ‘Tubik’ to the IAA motor show (15th through 25th September in Frankfurt) where the aerodynamically styled vehicle without visible side windows is sure to set tongues wagging. The interior is designed like an elegant lounge but the front of the Tubik looks more like a stubby snout than anything else. It has the double-chevron of the marque illuminated by lilac light and tiny headlight slits and looks as if it is the work of an illustrator specializing in science-fiction comics. Otherwise the carosserie is to be seen as an homage to the Type H which in thirty-four years found over half a million buyers.

- Lilac is also the dominant shade to be found in the interior of the Tubik which has room for nine occupants.
Colourful chameleon
Lilac is also the dominant shade to be found in the interior of the 4.8 metres long Tubik. The seats are covered in felt, although their backrests and the door-linings are finished in leather. The three rows of seating can be re-configured flexibly. The second row can accommodate three passengers or the seats can be folded down, stowed under the back row and replaced by a table. Alternatively, both the second and third rows can be fully reclined. The two front passenger seats can be turned to face the rear. The passengers may gaze at the large-format curved monitor or look out of windows which are mesh-covered to ensure complete privacy.
The motorization for the Tubik takes the form of the now familiar PSA diesel-hybrid power plant with the diesel engine powering the front wheels while the back axle is driven by an electric motor.

It would be cool, but a series version will surely be watered down!

Hints of the Great Wall of China: The Citroen Metropolis
It could hardly be more elegant and it looks almost as long as the Great Wall, the Citroen Metropolis. I comes as no surprise that the automobile was designed in and with the Chinese market in mind. Now it has come to and we realize: This could also be a car for Europe.
