With suffixes possessing a certain familiarity Tikt Performance seek to promote their Corvette C6 ZR1. (Jessica Fischer , 16.01.2012)
‘Triple X’ from Bavaria
‘Triple X’ for the street… that’s the headline on the press release from Tikt Performance. “Yeah. Cars, boards, bikes. I like anything fast enough to do something stupid in”, said the character played by Vin Diesel in the move 2002 ‘Triple X’, clearly perfectly happy with his tricked-out Pontiac GTO. And so the Bavarian tuning firm Tikt Performance had to look a little further to find another car they could bring up to xXx level… it turned out to be a Corvette C6 ZR1. In stock trim the ZR1 is the most sporty of all Corvettes and is up there with those autos belonging to the rarified super sports car category. The 6.2 litre V8 delivers 647 horsepower and 823 Nm of torque. But this was far from enough for Tikt Performance whose aim was to turn the ZR1 into an asphalt-eating monster.
Performance giant
The measures taken by Tikt Performance to achieve their ambition for the powerful Corvette were many. They installed modified cylinder heads and camshaft, stronger valve springs, re-calibrated the compressor ration, put in a larger throttle valve and a complete replacement for the stock exhaust system. After re-programming the motor management electronics as well, the final result measured on the test rig was 796 horsepower and an amazing 970 Nm of torque. Tikt also built a new cooling system into the ZR1 which used four times as much coolant as the original. The cooling system was installed together with a modified front skirt in order to created an air flow generating the kind of Venturi effect often used in race cars to increase downforce. Other items of aerodynamics kit… like the rear spoiler… were made of light weight carbon composites.
Dynamic driving
The work executed by Tikt Performance includes optimization of the running gear. New wheel suspensions bring the ‘Vette 3 centimetres closer to the roadway without any body lowering module. In combination with the new racing shocks, however, the result is a ZR1 five centimetres lower overall. Weight reduction has been achieved by mounting the ‘Zerra Ultralight Evo 2’ wheels. According to the owners of Tikt Performance, Kresimir and Bodrozic Tomislav, the final result is a Corvette ZR1 which ticks the boxes whether on country roads, on the autobahn or on the race circuit… so mark the score-card xXx!
