A boost for the 116d
The new BMW 1-Series generation is in the showrooms since the autumn of last year and now the tuners at Hartge have come up with performance enhancements for the 116d, 118d and 120d models of the F20 series. An optimization is made possible by means of a control module with a new wiring harness which lengthens the injection time to increase power output. The 116d which in stock trim delivered 116 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque from the two-litre power plant now gives the driver 142 horsepower and 310 Nm. Hartge have checked the data both on the test rig and on the race track… when accelerating from 50 kilometres an hour to 150 the enhanced 116d is almost 7 seconds quicker, taking 15.2 seconds for the sprint. The top speed is now 212 kilometres an hour, an improvement over the standard 200.
118d and 120d enhancements
For the 118d and 120d versions Hartge offer an equivalent control unit. The performance of the 118d rises from 143 horsepower to 174. Acceleration from 50 to 150 takes, at 14.3 seconds, 4.2 seconds less than before. The new top speed is 219 instead of 212 kilometres an hour. The big 120d diesel with the Hartge boost now puts out over 200 horsepower, with the two litre four-cylinder delivering not 184 but 218. The acceleration test in this instance calculated the elapsed time from 80 kilometres an hour to 180… and it took a whole seven seconds less. The Hartge 120d took 14.2 seconds for this sprint and the car’s top speed rose from 228 to 235 kilometres an hour. The performance boosting control modules for the 116d and 118d are offered by Hartge at 1,660 Euros while for the 120d the price tag is 1,995 Euros. Further enhancements in terms of suspension, wheels-and-rubber and interior packages are listed on the Hartge website.
