Top Gear
High octane entertainment
The Royal Wedding? That was last week! And for those of us whose interest was piqued by the fact that the Royals were all being driven in automobiles of marques which are firmly in German hands… No, let us move on! The past weekend was rich in high octane entertainment, and not only in on the Formula One track. (Motorvision TV

Top Gear marathon
Millions worldwide watched on Sunday and applauded the third Red Bull win in the first four races of the Formula One season which saw Sebastian Vettel again taking the checkered flag. But for viewers of the German language Motorvision TV channel there was afterwards a further treat in store. Our broadcasting colleagues assembled a ‘best of’ Top Gear, the action highlights from past seasons of the legendary BBC series, a true television marathon lasting eight hours and filled with black humour and squealing tyres. Mika Häkkinen showed co-host James May how to be a good rally driver, the inimitable Jeremy Clarkson did his utmost to complete a lap of the Nordschleife in under ten minutes at the wheel of a Jaguar XJ and with the expert advice of racing driver Sabine Schmitz. And there were the most improbable races involving everything from trucks to busses and even ‘white vans’.
Automotive entertainment at its finest, currently only
in German on Motorvision TV but soon in English as the channel’s roll-out in
other territories picks up momentum.
