Domination by elimination
Understatement has never been a characteristic associated with cars given the JE Design treatment… the new front fascia for the Spanish compact speaks of a certain arrogance and the Seat logo has been eliminated. This alone makes for an impressive appearance when seen in the rear-view mirror of another driver, especially when there are also LED daytime running lights strategically integrated into this new bumper unit. It costs in its basic configuration about 655 Euros, and 238 more with the LEDs included. There are headlight masks (89 Euros) and sensuously sporty side skirts (299 Euros). The rear skirt kit for 299 Euros completes the aerodynamics package which is available for all models.
Design at ground level
Low riding is mandatory and JE Design have installed sports springing which brings the 35 millimetres closer to the road. This also helps to set off the tuner’s own-make alloys, from their ‘Multispoke’ range sized 7x17 or 7.5x18 and finished either in silver or matte black. The cost of the complete wheel-set including 215 format sports tyres is around 1,800 Euros.
Fun promised
JE Design have of course gone beyond visual customization and have also boosted the power output of the . They have added a bit of extra electronics with ‘plug and play’ functionality which in this instance is in charge of a 1.6 litre TDI motor. The power output prior to the installation of the ‘black box’ was 105 horsepower but this rises with the magic of electronics now to 121 horsepower and 282 Nm of torque where there was formerly 250 pushed to the front axle. All of this reduces the elapsed time to reach hundred to 10.2 instead of 10.9 seconds and the top speed rises from 188 to 194 kilometres an hour. The magic box costs 1,399 Euros.
Inside story
Finally JE Design puts its signature on the Seat’s compact interior. Here the driver will find plenty of leather if he has opted for the ‘Elegance’ trim for 1,599 Euros. Cowhide also clothes the steering-wheel, the gear-shift bellows and the hand-brake grip and there is no additional charge for the various different colours on offer. But there is still more… the tuner stands ready to emboss an individual logo on the seat backs, to give the seats themselves electrically powered lumbar support and even to add a twelve-stage massage unit to deliver an all-round ‘wellness’ feeling.
Anyone anxious to turn their compact into a health spa on wheel need only resort to the website of JE Design to learn all of the details.
