A diesel as king of the road
Oh yes, there are still diesel-powered SUV models and it is their massive torque which makes them true kings of the road. One of these four-wheeled dinosaurs… one of those which bring a frown to the brows of those concerned by fuel consumption and CO2 emissions… is the Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI. Engine capacity 4,136 cc, 340 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque allow the heavyweight built in Wolfsburg to speed nimbly to a hundred kilometres an hour in 5.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 242 kilometres an hour. And that is in standard trim, straight out of the factory. But such data fail to impress the expert tuners at JE Design.
Optimized power
Just by optimizing the motor management electronics the boys at JE Design boost the output of the diesel to 410 horsepower and 930 Nm of torque. Your reservation for a permanent place in the fast lane will cost 2,999 Euros and for this you get a top speed of 269 kilometres an hour thrown in. The time for the sprint to a hundred also improves by four tenths of a second to 5.4 seconds. An electronic lowering module sinks the carosserie by around 35 millimetres and gives the 2.3 ton auto greater agility. The car’s track has been widened by 30 millimetres at the front axle and by 40 millimetres at the back, all in the interest of getting the maximum in driving dynamics out of the power-enhanced Touareg.
A touch wider
To give the longitudinal dynamics of the JE Touareg its fitting visual evocation the tuner has given the brown bear of a car a broad beamed body kit. The sports radiator grill and front spoiler give the nose of the Touareg a face-lift and this is continued with substantial widening if the wheel arches fore and aft and some extra kit at the back of the car (skirt element and faceplate). Oval tail-tubes right and left complete the customization of the current VW Touareg model.
Big footed
Naturally those wheel arches must be filled with aesthetically appropriate running gear. JE Design have installed their ‘SUV Select’ alloys in 10x22 format and put on 295/30 tyres. The tuner offers a choice of three finishes (shadow silver with polished fascia, matte black with matte silver at the front or matte graphite silver with polished frame). But for a small extra charge individual design wishes can be respected. This also holds true for the car’s interior which JE Design likes to fit with an opulent acreage of Alcantara (dashboard, door linings and roof lining).

We’ll test it!
Just how dominant and powerful the VW Touareg V8 TDI by JE Design actually is in practice we shall find out as soon as we test the SUV. One thing, however, is certain… this car is environmentally all else than correct. Anyone super-sensitive in this regard will be relieved to learn that JE Design also offer a power upgrade… from 240 to 285 horsepower) for the three-litre TDI.
