Mini has something special in store for this Olympic year, the editions Baker Street and Bayswater. (Marcel Sommer , 20.11.2012)
This summer the British capital will play host to the Olympic Games and the streets of London will see a couple of special edition Minis to mark the event. For a limited period the models Baker Street and Bayswater will be built and go on sale not only in the United Kingdom but all over the world.
Baker Street
The Baker Street will come resplendent in ‘Rooftop Grey’ lacquer, with fat striping on the bonnet and will roll on black 16 inch light metal wheels. The model designation will be writ large not only on the ‘side scuttles’… as the turn indicator housings have been dubbed… but also on the door sills and the seat-backs. The diamond-patterning of the seat covers is supposedly ‘typically British’. There is the ‘Pepper’ equipment package as an option, giving the owner an air conditioning system, a leather-covered steering wheel, fog lights and a range of other extras.
The Baker Street specials can be either the two petrol-fuelled Mini One basic models with 98 horsepower (72 kW) or the Cooper with 122 horsepower (90 kW). For those who prefer diesel power there is the choice of the basic One D with 90 horsepower (66 kW) or the Cooper D with 112 horsepower (82 kW). As standard all motors are paired with manual six-speed gearboxes although a six-stage automatic transmission will also be on offer.
Bayswater
The Bayswater edition will also feature a range of motorizations… that of the Mini Cooper with 122 horsepower (90 kW), of the Cooper S with 184 horsepower (135 (kW) as well as the engines of the Cooper D with 112 horsepower (82 kW) or the Cooper SD with 143 horsepower (105 kW). The Bayswater, too, will offer the choice of manual six-speed or automatic six-stage transmissions. Given the motors made available the Bayswater will be the more sporty of the two special editions and this will be reflected in the provision of a stainless-steel pedal set and items of chrome-plated trim. There is gleaming metallic body finish, upholstery in anthracite leather, two-tone contrast stitching on the gear shifter or selector and on the hand-brake lever.
The Bayswater will be as immediately recognizable as the Baker Street with its name prominent on the turn indicator housings. For the body Mini are proposing the newly developed shades ‘Kite Blue’ metallic, ‘Midnight Black’ metallic and ‘Eclipse Grey’ metallic. And in this instance the special edition stands proudly on 17 inch light metal wheels.
