Piecha Design Mercedes SL: Custom tailoring
The Mercedes SL of the model range R230 is already eleven year old. For all the face-lifted models built since 2008 the Mercedes specialists at Piecha Design have a solution for the elegant automobile. (Florian Maier

Five-star elite
The crew at Piecha Design make no secret of their affection for Mercedes models and for many of them they offer tuning solutions. For the SL Type R230 they have come up with a special integrated unit with LED daytime running lights and fog lights which will fit the front fascia of all standard and AMG versions. And anyone wanting to give the nose of their SL even more sporting allure can order the three piece front spoiler. Also on offer from Piecha Design is a spoiler edge for the back of the SL.

- Harmonious profile for the Piecha Design SL.
Gripping story
When it comes to appropriate wheels Piecha Design has a solution here, too, in the form of their own-make ‘MP1-Monoblock’ rims in titanium matte finish. They display little modesty in this regard, opting for 9.5x20 inch format for the front wheels and 11x20 at the back. In spite of these huge dimensions and the size of the tyres… 255/30-20 and 305/25-20 respectively… no modification of the standard wheel-arches of the elegant roadster carosserie has been deemed necessary. However in order to mask the wheels discreetly the SL needs to crouch a bit lower, about 30 millimetres nearer to the ground. This is achieved either by using normal sports springs of with the Piecha lowering module for cars with the ‘ABC’ suspension.

- An imposing sight… with tyres in 305 format grip is assured.
Four pipe harmonies
A one might expect of such a well established tuning outfit the list of options is not quickly exhausted. The ‘Quadro’ sports exhaust system with its four tail-pipes provides and AMG look and ensures that the sound output is majestic. Other useful extras include a ‘Variodach’ roof construction permitting deployment and retraction of the top at up to 60 kilometres an hour. There is also what Piecha term “by now legendary” Power Converter package which boosts the performance of the SL by a considerable margin.
Thus all that remains for an owner of an older SL willing to invest a bit in his car is to visit the Piecha Design (German language) website to get further information.
