Performance fetishists
At Porsche the focus of all attention at this time is the brand new 911. But until the 991 appears in all of the various manifestations in which the 997 has been adapted over the years a good while will have to pass. Thus it seems only logical that Porsche tuners will for the time being be content to devote their attentions to the not-so-new 911s. An example for this tactic is TechArt. The main attraction on the IAA stand of the performance fetishists based in Leonberg was their new GT Street RS, based on the 911 GT2 RS, which has an imposing 720 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque. Now the aftermarket magicians are on hand with an upgrade for the 911 Turbo which according to the stats will approach the values of its uncompromising sibling and in terms of driving performance put in the shadows.
-
- The Porsche 911 Turbo by TechArt shoots to a hundred in an amazing 2.2 seconds.200 kilometres an hour is reached in nine seconds and the top speed is 352 kilometres an hour.
All-wheel-drive acceleration monster
The turbo charged 3.8 litre six-cylinder Boxer motor comes out of the factory with plenty of power but Tech Art manage raise it from 500 to 700 horsepower with an increase in torque from 650 Nm… briefly 700 in ‘over-boost’ mode… to 880 Nm. This permits the turbo with all-wheel-drive to shoot to a hundred in an amazing 2.2 seconds. If this incredible time proves valid, the car would be half a second quicker than the rear-wheel-driven GT Street RS and six tenths faster that the original with double-declutching automatic transmission. Also as extraordinary… 200 kilometres an hour reached in nine seconds and a top speed of 352 kilometres an hour. Enough said!
-
- Stats for the TechArt Panamera Turbo… a hundred reached in 3.7 seconds, 200 hundred in 12.3 seconds, a maximum velocity of 326 kilometres an hour.
More nice turbos
How is all this possible? TechArt installs new manifolds and turbocharger, together with a sports air filter, an exhaust system and to pep up the look a set of trim elements in costly carbon composites. The adjusted motor management electronics ensure that all of the components play nicely together in perfect harmony.
All of which is equally applicable to the Panamera and models which
harmonize well with the sports car models for which the concern is
famed. Even on the executive floor in Stuttgart the enormous success of
the luxury sedan and SUV models… intended as a simple expansion of the
marque… came as a real surprise. But the sales of the cars with more
doors than just two remain constant and at a high level. The implication
is that this means there are good prospects, too, for the turbos given
the TechArt power turbo packages.

- The Panamera Turbo… new turbo-charger unit, a sports air filter and modified motor management electronics push the output from 500 to 630 horsepower and the maximum torque from 700 (770 with Sport Chrono Pack) to 880 Nm.
Sweet stats
Take the Panamera Turbo, for example… new turbo-charger unit, a sports air filter and modified motor management electronics push the output from 500 to 630 horsepower and the maximum torque from 700 (770 with Sport Chrono Pack) to 880 Nm. This gets the two-ton auto to a hundred in 3.7 seconds (series version 4 seconds) and allows further push to a maximum velocity of 326 instead of 303 kilometres an hour. This is a tempo the Cayenne Turbo cannot match, of course, but 4.2 seconds is nevertheless five tenths faster than the original and a top speed of 305 kilometres per hour (series 278) is far from unimpressive.
-
- New turbo-charger, a sports air filter, exhaust manifolds, chip tuning and bi-flow sports exhaust system… all of these help to boost the Porsche Cayenne Turbo significantly.
Finding those reserves
Two achieve performances of this order TechArt needed to exploit all of the reserves hiding in the V8 Turbos. New intercoolers, a sports air filter, exhaust manifolds, chip tuning and bi-flow sports exhaust system… all of these were called for to lift the power output from 500 to 660 horsepower and the maximum torque from 700 to 880 Nm. The obligatory package of carbon trim elements is on offer and suits the car well.
Scanning all this data tempts us to begin to call TechArt by another name… ‘TurboArt’. But despite this surfeit of turbo ecstasy we are impatient to know what the tuners have in mind for the new 911.
