The BMW family is growing at the lower end of the model spectrum. In September the 1-Series which had such a successful start will include a three-door version. There will also be all-wheel-drive options, a new entry level motorization and the 320 horsepower top version.
The very successful model wearing the ‘bow tie’ badge, the Cruze, can now have a 130 horsepower (96 kW) 1.7 litre turbo diesel motorization. And it will deliver admirable mileage… calling for just 4.4 litres of fuel per hundred kilometres driven.
The new A-Class not only looks very different from its predecessor it is an entirely new automobile and the motorizations represent the manufacturer’s determination to be innovative. For example, now the ‘BlueDirect’ technology of the V6 and V8 premium segment models finds its way into the compact class in the four-cylinder power plants of the A-Class.
With their ‘Nürburgring Edition’ of their Corsa model Opel have finally built the kind of uncompromising racing compact that we very much like. A mechanical differential lock, Bilstein suspension and 210 horsepower promise the delivery of impressive lap times. Out test will show whether this promise has been kept.
There will be just 199 built with 180 horsepower. Abarth expands its product range with an especially exclusive and spectacular edition, the ‘Abarth Punto Scorpione’.
